The Bungalows are set back from the street in a tranquil and serene garden. It is hard to believe that Ubud’s activity is so close to these quiet and calm surroundings.
Puri Saraswati Bungalow has served guests for over 25 years. This very special hotel remains a part of the Ubud Royal Palace property and today three generations of the royal family make their home on the grounds. Guests will see authentic Balinese ceremony and ritual as family and friends come and go. It is very possible they will be invited to participate in temple ceremonies with the family.
And at the Bungalows, activities vary from day to day. One day it will be carvers creating masks for the mystical barong; another day artisans will be detailing newly created gamelan instruments; or perhaps gala preparations for a temple ceremony could be in process. Guests are surrounded by Balinese art, culture and tradition. At Puri Saraswati Bungalows it is all part of a normal day. The Bungalows have never been separated from the old, traditional Balinese life and guests can be as much a part of this as they choose, perhaps as an observer, perhaps as a participant.
LOCATION
Puri Saraswati Bungalows is located in the center of Ubud Village, two minutes walk from the Ubud Market, the Ubud Royal Palace and Puri Lukisan Art Museum… but still only five minutes from beautifully terraced rice fields. Ubud is recognized as the artistic and cultural center of Bali and appropriately, the goddess Saraswati represents the arts, knowledge and wisdom.
The Bungalows are adjacent to the famous Lotus Pond and acclaimed Café Lotus Restaurant. On selected evenings each week, award winning gamelan and dance groups perform on the Lotus Pond stage. During the day, the stage is used to teach young boys
and girls traditional Balinese dance. In the surrounding pavilions, young musicians practice gamelan. The area is alive with traditional artistic activity.
Guests at the Bungalows are in the very heart of Ubud’s activities, where dance, gamelan and shadow puppetry performances occur nightly, excellent restaurants are steps away, art and handicraft galleries proudly exhibit their work, and the magical music and color of temple processions pass at the doorstep.

Puri Saraswati Bungalow was originally an open garden area where children from the palace and their friends would play. Directly adjoining the Bungalows is the famous Lotus Pond, also part of the palace property. The pond and its bridge lead to a stage in front of magnificent Balinese Temple, Pura Saraswati. Inside this temple, master carvers create the beautiful faces of the mystical and magical Barong.
